As intermediaries of divine commandments, angels and deities have since ancient times been associated with the celestial wanderers - the planets of our solar system - which seem to move across the celestial vault. The division of the seven classical planets or wanderers creates a system that incorporates seven levels of forces in the universe and is used in alchemy, magic, Kabbalah and astrology. Tradition has early on associated dual qualities with each of these seven wanderers; a light and a dark, a soft and a hard, a virtue and a vice. The human being as a microcosm carries both forces within itself as a reflection of the macrocosm, which is why the planetary forces are both transcendent and immanent.
The two main chains of association are that the seven planets correspond to the seven openings in the human head (eyes, ears, nostrils and mouth) and to the seven subtle centres of power between the head and the base, which are the seals that the alchemist has to reveal, activate and transcend.
Each of the seven planetary forces is linked to an archangel and a heaven:
— The Moon – Gabriel – First heaven – Schamaym or Vilon
— Mercury – Raphael – Second heaven – Raquya
— Venus – Anael – Third heaven – Saymym or Shehaqim
— The Sun – Michael – Fourth heaven – Maoni
— Mars – Kamael – Fifth heaven – Machon
— Jupiter – Sachiel – Sixth heaven – Zebul
— Saturn – Tzapkiel – Seventh heaven – Arahol or Araboth
These mighty beings can assist and help to reveal the respective sigils by providing the keys by which every human can open the seals of the planets. Angelic forces can be sought both within the human microcosm and invoked throughout the macrocosm.
