Christ the Bridegroom

The Nuptial Mystery

Christ appears within a nuptial field: the Bridegroom, Cana, the wedding feast, the wise and foolish virgins, the Kingdom banquet, and the later image of Bride and Bridegroom. The Messiah is not only King and Teacher, but Bridegroom. This symbolism carries union, feast, joy, and Sacred Marriage into Christology. It joins the Logos to Sophia, the King to the Bride, and the soul’s longing to its consummation in God.
