The Knight seeks the Grail but cannot manufacture or possess it. The Grail appears, is revealed, and is received. The Grail is received. The Stone is become. The Quest therefore teaches grace before Work. Effort prepares the Knight, but never compels the gift. The Grail prevents the Royal Art from becoming spiritual self-achievement.
