The Living Heart of the Sacrament
The cup is given at the Last Supper; in the Grail romances it has become lost and sought. The sacrament is institutionally present, yet its deepest realization is still experienced as Quest. The Grail therefore expresses a medieval Christian longing for an experiential, initiatory, transformative participation in the Christ mystery—one not exhausted by public institution alone.
