Miracles: Healing the Sick & the Blind and Casting out Demons

Miracles: Healing the Sick & the Blind and Casting out Demons

The Narrative

Throughout His ministry in Galilee and Judea, Jesus performed signs and wonders — healing the sick, restoring sight to the blind, making the lame walk, cleansing lepers, casting out demons, and even raising the dead. These miracles were not mere displays of power, but signs of the Kingdom breaking into the world.

Healing the Sick

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
— Matthew 9:35 (NKJV)
And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.
— Matthew 12:15 (NKJV)

The Healing of the Paralytic

Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you." … But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins" — then He said to the paralytic, "Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." And he arose and departed to his house.
— Matthew 9:2, 6–7 (NKJV)

Cleansing the Leper

And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
— Matthew 8:2–3 (NKJV)

Casting Out Demons

When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses."
— Matthew 8:16–17 (NKJV)

When Jesus cast out the legion of demons from the man among the tombs in the country of the Gadarenes, the demons begged Him to send them into a herd of swine. The man, freed and in his right mind, wished to follow Jesus, but He said:

"Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you."
— Mark 5:19 (NKJV)

Raising the Dead

Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. When they told Jairus his daughter was dead, Jesus said:

"Do not be afraid; only believe." … He took the child by the hand, and said to her, "Talitha, cumi," which is translated, "Little girl, I say to you, arise." Immediately the girl arose and walked.
— Mark 5:36, 41–42 (NKJV)

He also raised the son of the widow of Nain:

Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.
— Luke 7:14–15 (NKJV)

The Authority Behind the Signs

"But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you."
— Matthew 12:28 (NKJV)
"The works that I do in My Father's name, they bear witness of Me."
— John 10:25 (NKJV)
