“No one asleep and dreaming in the world remembers his attack upon himself. No one believes there really was a time when he knew nothing of a body, and could never have conceived this world as real.”
ACIM is systematically repairing four distortions of identity.
The ego says: Origin: I made myself. Identity: I am a separate body-mind. Value: My worth must be earned. Function: I must get something from the world.
The Holy Spirit reverses each: Origin: God created me. Identity: I am part of the unified Sonship. Value: My worth was established by God. Function: I extend what God has given me.
I receive myself from God → therefore I belong to God → therefore I share His nature → therefore I extend what He is.
The ego breaks that chain at its very beginning by declaring itself self-created. Once origin is forgotten, everything downstream becomes distorted. That is why the authority problem matters so much.
