At Delphi, the Pythia spoke for Apollo from a sanctuary regarded by the Greeks as the center of the world. Cities, rulers, and private seekers came for consultation, while the Delphic maxims, especially “Know thyself” and “Nothing in excess,” condensed an ethic of self-knowledge, measure, and reverence before the divine.
Delphi stands at the meeting point of prophecy, purification, civic order, and philosophical awakening. Its command to know oneself became a formative thread in Socratic and Platonic thought; within the Royal Art, it marks the turning of the seeker from projection and excess toward discernment, interior truth, and the rightful measure of the soul.
