Why Abraham?
Why Israel?
If God is God of all humanity, why does sacred history narrow into one family?
Election is vocation, not privilege.
Israel is chosen for a task:
- preserve memory of the One God;
- embody covenant;
- bear sacred law;
- develop prophetic conscience;
- build the Temple;
- preserve messianic expectation;
- become the historical vessel through which the Christ event can enter.
This means chosenness increases responsibility rather than status.
Theology of royalty:
The chosen are chosen to serve.
