Performance presents an action; ceremony orders communal meaning; ritual repeats transformative patterns; sacrament claims efficacious participation in sacred reality; spectacle seeks visibility and effect. These modes overlap but are not identical. Bardic discernment asks when art becomes ritual, when ritual becomes theatre, and whether participation serves transformation, communion, or merely display.
