Allegory tends toward one image equaling one fixed meaning. A living symbol exceeds any single interpretation. The Grail can evoke Eucharist, Sophia, heart, grace, vessel, lineage, and healing without becoming vague. The Bard must distinguish coded symbolism from symbolic depth. A living image gathers meanings into relationship and remains fertile after explanation.
