Inspiration and Craft
A Muse may give the Song, but the artist must learn meter, harmony, drawing, syntax, rhetoric, composition, and technique. Inspiration without craft remains inchoate. Craft without inspiration becomes sterile. Grace and Work, Grail and Stone, meet in practice: revision, failure, cutting, patient study, and mastery of form. Authenticity is not the absence of discipline.
