The First Bardic Instrument

Bard originally names singer and reciter. Breath gives tone; tone becomes speech, chant, prayer, rhetoric, spoken word, and song. Hebrew ruach, Greek pneuma, and Latin spiritus join breath and spirit. In singing, Spirit passes through the body as breath and becomes sound: breath → spirit → voice → word → song.
