The Return of Suppressed Memory
The Nag Hammadi codices, buried for more than a millennium and rediscovered in 1945, returned a lost library of early Christian diversity to the modern world. Their recovery does not make them simply truer than canonical Christianity. It enlarges the record of the many ways early communities spoke of Christ, salvation, Sophia, and the soul. Within the Great Story, Nag Hammadi is shattered memory recovered: the buried voice returns when civilization becomes capable of hearing it again.
