I. The One, the Godhead, the Monad.
II. The Nous, containing gods and archangels associated with the Platonic Forms; in Sethian Gnosticism, this is the Pleroma with its Aeons.
III. The World Soul, containing gods and angels associated with the planets and stars; in Sethian Gnosticism, these are the archons associated with the heavenly spheres.
IV. The physical world, containing gods and daemons associated with locations in nature; in Gnosticism, these include the archons associated with the parts of the physical body.
One point of view is that angels are viewed as benevolent while helping to lift the soul upward (epistrophē), but as malevolent archons when pushing the soul back down into embodiment (prohodos).
