Arguments against anarchism and their refutations

“All attempted refutations of anarchism are in fact statements of the status quo.” - Michael Malice

It won’t be a perfect utopia

Nothing is perfect. No informed anarchist would claim it will be a utopia. Things will just be much better once State monopoly and violence is removed.

corporations taking everything over

Corporations have the power they do because Government monopoly.

People can choose to not buy from corporations that are evil - without customers they are powerless. The people have the power and always have.

mafias taking everything over

roads, hospitals

police, security, crime, prisons

china trying to invade

who will settle legal disputes?

who will help sick and poor?

Overarching reasons and principles

The free market and private sector is much more efficient and effective at doing everything that government does.

People will still be able to defend themselves, work together in associations, groups, communities

The internet and ability for the entire community to communicate and share information and organize makes an anarchist society very possible

  • can communicate to others that a certain company is not ethical and so people decide not to buy from it
  • corwdfunding for charitable and community purposes

Things like Uber or Ebay show that the internet and technology make an anarchist society much more harmonious

  • ability to review and vet any services you might use (such as a security company)
