The Books can be read as one story rather than 14(or so) different categories
Creation → Kingdom: The Beginning of the Great Story of All That Is and the perfection of the Kingdom of Heaven
Kingdom → Fall: The Son dreams a dream of separation and creates within his mind the entire realm of world, body, ego, and the entire drama of the soul’s journey
Fall → Primordial Tradition: After falling for eons of time, the metaphysical forgetting enters into ancient history and becomes babel, flood, previous civilization, Atlantis which begins a new age of that of the early cultures of Egpt, Sumeria, Babylon, etc.
Primordial Tradition → Israel: From the primodial ancient tradition comes the Adamic line, Seth, Hermes, Enoch, Abrahm and scattered memory becomes a lineage, nation, and covenant. A lineage builds a relationship with the one God and is prepared for the coming Messiah to fulfill the Law and Covenent.
Israel → Christ: promise becomes embodied revelation in the messiah/christ Master Teacher and example, the Savior who enacts the Passion and demonstrates the ultimate Truth. Yet humanity is not yet ready to truly follow him. He ascends and continues to guide while the human story and drama of the human soul continues
Christ → Gnosis: Pentecost begins the diffusion of the Christic revelation into the many peoples, languages, communities, and forms that will carry it through history. The Christic Revelation enters into the world and different groups attempt to grapple with his life and teachings. The white Light of Christ enters history and refracts into multiple theological, mystical, philosophical, ascetic, sacramental, and esoteric interpretations. The Christic mystery merges into the broader Western Tradition. The Christian Church developes. After the Christ example, the Disciple of Light attempts to follow his teachings. Christ accomplishes/reveals the Way; humanity now has to learn how to recieve it, what it means and how to follow.
Gnosis → Grail: Gnosis becomes Quest. After centuries Europe experiences a dark age where Christ has become institutionalized and violence is common. Gnostic and pagan heresies are punished and suppresed, causing them to go underground. The Christic-Sophianic Mysteries becomes a Quest of the Holy Grail, a quest for the mystic heart. And the Judeo-Christian tradition is synthesized with the older pagan mythic traditions. Everything moves into a medieval fuedal monarchal setting and culture. After Christianity becomes the dominant religious framework of Europe, older Celtic, Germanic, classical, folkloric, chivalric, Marian, Eucharistic, and Christian symbolic worlds meet in medieval romance. The inner longing for lost Wisdom becomes dramatized as a Quest for the Grail and healing of the Wasteland.
Grail → Hermetic Arts: The Grail Quest of the Holy Knight becomes The Wizard’s operative Hermetic art and science of alchemy, magic, astrology and the Great Work of creating/discovering the Philosophers’ Stone. The anceint egpytian/sumerian/Greek occult magical and alchemical traditions flower and are merged with Christic Revelation. Renaissance Hermeticism brings back Greek Hermetica; Neoplatonism; astrology; alchemy; magic; Kabbalah; Christian esotericism; into a new synthesis.
Wizard → Mystery School: The individual Wizard in his tower learning and practicing the occult arts and sciences in secret outside of the church becomes involved in the transmission and preservation of ancient wisdom, myth, ritual,… Mystery Schools work to create civilizational transformation. The essene-gnostic-Templar lineage becomes the Rosicrucian ideal and Freemasonic societies. The culture undergoes revolutions, modernization, “enlightenment”, etc. Later Western initiatory movements—Rosicrucian, Masonic, Hermetic, magical, chivalric—adopt and recombine biblical Temple symbolism, Christian mysticism, Hermetic philosophy, alchemy, Kabbalah, legendary Templar inheritance, Egypt, and older initiatory archetypes into new mystery-school forms.
Mystery School → Modernity: the hidden mystery schools opens into a disenchanted, materialistic, global information world of rapid change and lack of meaning, myth, spirit… A global world, global publishing, the internet, allows all of humanity’s knowledge that has been preserved to be accessible by anyone. The secret wisdom moves into a world of: printing; mass literacy; science; industrialization; secularization; democratization; individualism; global contact; comparative religion; psychology; mass media; internet. Eventually: the Vault opens. The old problem was Where can I find the secret? The modern problem: How can I distinguish wisdom from infinite information? Where are we now? Modernity has generated: science; freedom; technology; global consciousness; extraordinary knowledge; and simultaneously: fragmentation; materialism; attention collapse; ecological pressure; ideological polarization; loneliness; institutional distrust; technologies whose power exceeds our wisdom. So: Human power has outrun human integration.
Modernity → New Earth: Humanity and Earth undergoes massive acceleration, upheavel, transition, birthing pangs, etc. Human insanity and illness reaches peak simultaneous with people becoming more empowered and informed. Governments, systems, institutions, break down and are replaced with new ones informed by a higher consciousness. An apoclypse occurs and much subterranean information and truth comes out about governmental/media/institutional/etc. corruption and agendas. Open contact with ET beings occurs….. New Earth → Royal Soverignty & Order: The establishiment of a new mythos, new synthesized western mystery tradition and religion, a new way of organizing society, a return of a sacred monarchical Tradition…. A nation and society and culture oriented around the Sacred, around Christ. A true education….. What would a civilization look like if the principles of the Royal Art were embodied socially? Sacred center; covenant; subsidiarity; kingship; voluntary hierarchy; education; guild; family; art; technology; ecology; local community; sacred calendar, etc. A civilization needs a legitimate center, hierarchy of value, and sacred telos.
Royal Order → Revelation: Both within the collective but especially within the Individual, the end of an Age comes and the second coming of Christ occurs. There is mass awakening into a new higher reality of consciousness. The old patterns of fear, violence, hate, etc. cease and humanity enters into a Golden Future Apocalypse is the final unveiling of Reality and illusion, occurring individually whenever the mind awakens, collectively in historical crises and transformations, and eschatologically as the ultimate consummation of the Great Story.
Revelation → Bardic Creation: awakening returns as creative participation. The full Story is told, song is sung. The great epic myth of the story of the human soul is unfolded and the story ends in happily ever after. The Great Story reveals itself finally as Comedy rather than tragedy: exile ends in homecoming, the wounded land is healed, the Bride and Bridegroom are united, the King returns, and the awakened Bard sings a New Song.
Son → Exile → Wanderer → Patriarch → Christ → Disciple → Knight → Wizard → Initiate → Modern Individual → King → Awakened One → Bard
The Holy Spirit continually translates remembrance into forms each age can receive.
the protagonist becomes the author. At the beginning, the Prince is inside the Story unconsciously. At the end, the Bard tells the Story consciously. That is the rectification of authorship encoded narratively.

- the individual seeker;
- the artist undertaking the Work.
memory becomes covenant → covenant becomes incarnation → incarnation becomes inward recognition → recognition becomes Quest → Quest becomes Art → Art becomes initiation → initiation enters modernity → modern crisis demands restored order → order gives way to Revelation → Revelation flowers into creation.
The Royal Art tells the story of the Son who, created eternally in the Kingdom of God, dreams of separation and forgets his royal identity. Within the dream, humanity wanders through ages of exile while the memory of the Kingdom survives in myth, covenant, prophecy, philosophy, mystery, and sacred art. In Israel that memory becomes covenant; in Christ the truth of Sonship is embodied and revealed; in the Gnostic awakening it is recognized inwardly; then it becomes the Quest of the Holy Grail; in Hermeticism it becomes the conscious Art of transformation; in the Mystery Schools it becomes initiation and transmission. Modernity breaks apart the old sacred cosmos while giving humanity unprecedented freedom, knowledge, and power, bringing the collective dream to a crisis of meaning and transformation. The Royal task then becomes to restore sacred order inwardly and outwardly, until Revelation unveils the final truth: the Kingdom was never truly lost. The awakened Prince becomes the King, lays down the false claim to authorship, and finally becomes the Bard—capable of telling the whole Story anew as an act of Love, remembrance, and New Creation.
The actual subject of the Royal Art is not Western esotericism. Western esotericism is the historical-symbolic landscape through which the protagonist travels.
three stories occurring simultaneously
One Story, three scales: metaphysical, historical, initiatory.
1. The metaphysical story
Creation → separation → dream → awakening
2. The sacred-historical story
Primordial memory → Israel → Christ → refraction through Western traditions → modern fragmentation → regathering
This is the story of the Western soul.
3. The initiatory story
Prince → Disciple → Knight → Wizard → Initiate → King → awakened Bard
This is the individual life.
These three can be laid on top of one another without being literally identical.
