The Seven Churches can be read as seven conditions of the soul before the seals can be opened.
Ephesus — loss of first love
Smyrna — fidelity unto death / crown of life
Pergamum — compromise with false teaching
Thyatira — Jezebel / corrupted prophecy
Sardis — appearance of life, inward deadness
Philadelphia — the open door
Laodicea — lukewarmness, spiritual complacency
