One’s personal Daimon
Socrates spoke of hearing the voice of his personal spirit or daimonion: ”You have often heard me speak of an oracle or sign which comes to me … . This sign I have had ever since I was a child. The sign is a voice which comes to me and always forbids me to do something which I am going to do, but never commands me to do anything, and this is what stands in the way of my being a politician.”

The Romans inherited this idea and called it the genius. Every individual had one. Every household had one. Every city had one. The genius was your spiritual double, your unseen counterpart, guiding your life from behind the veil. To dishonor your genius was to fall into chaos. To align with it was to live in power.
Medieval grimoires speak of the Holy Guardian Angel, not as an external being fluttering above you, but as the perfected intelligence of your own soul. Contacting it was the Great Work. Not everyone was ready. Many went mad. Some were destroyed.

Head Spirit
In African and indigenous traditions, the idea persists. The Yoruba speak of Ori, the inner spiritual head chosen before incarnation. Your Ori is higher than any external deity. It guides, corrects, and sometimes obstructs you for your own alignment. When things fall apart, it is often said your Ori is forcing correction.
