The Mercurial Wedding

The Mercurial Wedding

• the true conjunction (coniunctio vera) • the Mercurial Wedding as an internal operation • the generation of a single body from two principles • putrefaction as proof of real union • the birth of the Stone in its first, imperfect state

"These components are united according to the art, as is well known to the wise, and are brought together in the Mercurial wedding. They are completely cooked into a single body and thus become an Elixir. For this reason Hermes also says that nothing is hidden from the wise if they know the correct path, for Sulphur and Mercury are the father and mother of the work. One must rightly understand Rasis (Rasis (Rhazes) is the Latinized name of al-Rāzī (Abū Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariyyā al-Rāzī, c. 865–925), a major Persian physician, alchemist, and philosopher) and pay careful attention to the true conjunction of the two, dissolving them properly and gently bringing them together until perfect putrefaction appears, from which the true Stone is born."
