What is our origin, nature, past, present, and future destiny? - we are together in this journey, this adventure, this exploration - as long as you wish to return here to this tower and to this dialogue, you can keep coming back to explore another facet of the infinite diamond of the great mystery
There is a Great Story. You and I are inside it. You have forgotten something about who you are The Royal Art is a path of liberation, awakening, transformation, remembering and returning. Where does one set forth on a beginingless journey? How does one start telling a never-ending story?
And how does one speak of the mysteries of life, the secrets of nature, the …..
We can only begin right here, where we are. And unfold the journey, the story, and the path little by little, one question, one aspect, one piece at a time.
I don’t know what long winding road has led you here, but I do know that no-one finds their way here by accident…
Here we shall learn to walk the Way of the Wizard. We will study and learn The Royal Art And so, that is what we shall do together, for as long as you wish to return to this tower, for as long as you wish to take up this adventure and be present in this place where we may sit and talk together, and explore the mysteries and the Great Story….
“What is the Royal Art, and how may I follow the Way of the Wizard?” you ask And all that and more is what shall unfold over the course of our meetings and talks together. But here in our first meeting I will try to share with you about just what you have entered into….
The Royal Art is what I call my Magnum Opus, my Great Work. It is my religion, my philosophy, my system, my path, my story, my myth, my Tradition, ….
The Royal Art is my name for a living initiatory mythos and spiritual path: a synthesis of the Christic, Hermetic, philosophical, mythic, and esoteric inheritance of the Western tradition, gathered into one Great Story and one Great Work of transformation.
It is Royal because it is for kings, by kings, of kings, so that you may become a king. No matter how humble your birth, you are a Prince and are meant to be a King or Queen. This is your inheritance and your destiny. The metaphors and symbols of Royalty is the closest images we have of divinity, and that is no accident. The crown, the throne, the scepter, the King, Gold… These all point to our inner birthright and our ultimate potential. For we are the divine child of God. This is what is meant by the Christ. The anointed one. Christ is God’s only beloved Son and Christ will be at the center of what we explore here—but perhaps not always in the ways either conventional religion or modern secular culture has taught us to expect.
It is “Art” because it is a discipline you learn, discover, create, perfect and you master. Yet also, just because I use the word Art, this does mean that it is opposed to Science - for at the highest level Art and Science are one, and so it is also the Supreme Science.
”The Royal Art” is also an ancient name for Alchemy, and the art & science of Alchemy is at the core of our Great Work. As it is the internal transformation of lead into gold, ordinary man into nobility, the mundane into the sacred.
The Royal Art is the living heart of the Western Spiritual Tradition. The spiritual heritage of the Western world, of the Western Soul
Often when people become spiritual seekers they look to the East for gurus and teachings, they look to Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism and others. And those are deep and profound traditions. Yet it is the great tragedy of Western Man that we do not know our own Tradition, our own sacred roots. Yet right here in our western languages, our own symbols, and our own philosophic and spiritual traditions exists a deep and profound spiritual path that is every bit as powerful as what the East offers.
Therefore, my work is the weaving of a living synthesis of the Greek, Hebrew, Christian, Hermetic, and pagan religious, spiritual, mythic, and poetic traditions. I am showing how they are not separate paths, but can be harmonized and brought together as one wholistic life and path.
Unfortunately, the western mythic and spiritual tradition has been continually fractured and lost and hidden through the millenia. Much of this wisdom survives only in fragments—scattered across scripture, myth, philosophy, poetry, and symbol.
The Ancient Egyptians told a myth of Osiris and how he was dismembered by his evil brother Set. He was cut apart and scattered, just as the Ancient wisdom humanity once held was lost, forgotten and scattered millenia ago. Osiris’ divine counterpart Isis then labors to gather the pieces of her beloved back together and restore him.
This is a profound myth at the heart of the Western Tradition and that is what the Royal Art is. The Ancient wisdom was scattered, and now we work to literally re-member, to put the scattered pieces back together to restore a whole, vibrant, living spiritual, mythic, poetic, philosophic Tradition for Western Man.
Sumerian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Zoroastrian, Hermetic, Ancient Greek, Pythagorean, Platonic,Hebrew, Christic, Gnostic, Templar, Masonic, Rosicrucian, and more.
from Egypt and Greece, Israel and Christianity, Hermeticism and alchemy, Grail romance and Kabbalah, Rosicrucianism, Freemasonry, mysticism, poetry, philosophy, and the great myths of the West.
These are the various branches of the Western Occult Mystery Tradition which hold our mytheo-poetic and spiritual roots and treasure and which can now be alchemically synthesized back together. These traditions share a common language, symbolism, narratives, grammar, ……
And it is not just about spirituality and occultism and religion, the fragmentation of the western tradition is also about myth, literature, art, poetry, and more - the entire western cultural inheritance has been fragmented and forgotten….
This is what the Royal Art is. It is ancient and primordial, yet it is totally fresh and new and meant for the modern man and woman who feels the call and desire for a lineage, a mythic narrative to exist within, a sacred history, a path and practice…..
I call my path the Way of the Wizard, for The Wizard is the one who comes into this world as an angelic messenger, who enters into the story to find the hero and to provide him with the knowledge and understanding and power needed to undertake and complete the quest.
The Wizard is also a master of the occult arts and sciences….
I synthesize the hermetic arts and sciences of alchemy, astrology, magic with the hebrew-christic spiritual lineage, incorporating in the lore of the myths and legends of the Western soul.
The Royal Art is the whole Magnum Opus. It is the Tradition, the story, the path, the …. The Way of the Wizard is one road through it—and the particular road from which I speak to you here.
The Royal Art contains many paths—the path of the Knight, the Disciple, the Builder, the Lover, the Bard, the Prince and the King. Yet the Wizard is the one that …… them all.
To walk the Way of the Wizard is to study, learn, practice and do all these various things…. To understand the movements of the stars and heavens, to study the occult secrets of nature, to work in the laboratory to know the mysteries of alchemical transformation, to learn the art of theurgy and ritual and therefore be able to consciously create one’s reality. It is to learn the lore and legends of the tradition and to understand what these stories mean and what the prophets were saying, it is to understand the Great Story of life and existence itself and to understand your place in it. It is to read the scriptures and commune with one’s Creator in prayer, to engage in a training of the mind and purification of the heart so as to come to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit within and to be restored to one’s true nature as the child of God. It is to understand the human condition, the origin and nature of evil in this world and in the heart and mind of oneself and one’s fellow Man. It is to understand the big picture of the great epic battle between the forces of light and darkness, good and evil, truth and the lie, love and fear. It is to know that one is a Hero with a great calling and a quest to undertake to vanquish the Dark Lord and to save the princess, bring healing to the land and the king. It is to devote oneself to wisdom and to love - and to the realization that love and wisdom meet and become one in the end.
The Wizard learns what the story is and how to tell it, how to write it, how to direct it,…. He comes to intuit where it is all heading to, where and what it’s ultimate end and culmination is. All this and much more is the role and the path and the work of the Wizard.
At the heart of all that we shall explore and discover together is one eternal story, one infinitely inexhaustible myth. This I call “The Tale of the Exiled Prince”. For this is the story which underlies all others, this is the story of the soul.
It tells of how the Prince who was the inheritor of his Father’s perfect Kingdom and the infinite freedom and love therein.
How he came to rebel, to turn away, to separate, to fall asleep, and therefore to fall. To dream a dream in which he is cast out of the Garden, expelled from the Kingdom and fallen into materiality and mortality. Doomed to be trapped in clothes of skin, to experience lack, hunger, thirst, violence, pain, and ultimately death. He finds himself an exile, a stranger in a strange land, with seemingly no way back to his home. And worse still, he forgets that he ever was a royal Prince living in perfect freedom, safety and abundance and believes that all he ever was is this poor beggar wandering the world struggling to survive each day.
Yes, my friend, this tale is your story. You are that exiled Prince. You are the heir to the Royal crown and throne who has become lost in your egoic identity and lost in a world of illusion, fear, and death.
Yet your Father would not allow you to wander eternally alone and without a reminder of your true inheritance and home. His infinite love and respect for you is so great, that he even allows you to rebel and turn away from him, and create your own world to deny him. Yet he sent with you on your long journey a lifeline, a red thread, he sent the reminder and guidance of his own voice, which he placed deep within your holy mind. Ensuring that his only beloved Son could always find his way back when he truly desired to return to sanity and Reality.
And so my brother, my sister - you and I are that exiled Prince or Princess. This is our myth, our tale and the greatest story ever told is this legend of our quest within this world to find the holy grail, to face the Dark Lord, to heal the land and restore the exile to his Kinship, to turn this dark nightmare from a horror story into a divine comedy. To undergo the great heroic quest, to walk the path, to face the dragon, to rebuild the temple, to overcome the forces of darkness, to heal the wounded land and the wounded King, to pass through our own passion and resurrection, and finally to complete the atonement with our Creator and to share that with one’s people and the world. This is the one great story and all of humanity’s tales and myths and legends contain reflections of it. s
So, this is The Tale of the Exiled Prince, which is the Story of the Soul, which is your narrative. A royal being, who fell, forgot, wandered in exile, and must remember, return, and be crowned.
For this is the path out of the minotaur’s labyrinth, the disenchantment of the modern world, the exile we all live in, the Wasteland, the loss of the sacred Loss of mythos and initiation.
And as undertake the Magnum Opus of The Royal Art through walking the Way of the Wizard, we shall live and tell that Tale of the Exiled Prince. For it is the universal epic story which contains all other tales.
What we are building here is a modern Mystery School. A gathering of seekers of the grail, builders of the temple, crafters of the Stone, disciples of the Light, students of Christ, ….. A place to learn and walk a total Tradition and way of life……
The Astral Library of Light—a growing archive of the notes and research and resources we shall draw upon in our work together. Wander there whenever you wish. Follow whatever shelf, book, or doorway calls to you.
I, Seth Balthazar, have be walking this path for decades now, truly for my entire life I have been a wanderer and a seeker. I did not have a teacher or a guide. Like you I was born into this modern world into a culture that is almost totally numb and in denial of the sacred, of our spiritual tradition. I have had to undergo my own long journey to seek knowledge, to seek out guides, to learn the tradition, to sort out the signal from the noise amidst the cacophony of this materialistic culture steeped in denial of all that is True, Beautiful and Good.
And still I walk the path. I am far yet from the goal. I too am an exiled Prince, yet now I know it. And now I consciously live out my own quest and my discipline of healing my mind of every perception and belief that obscures the Kingdom from my sight.
I invite you to join me, for us to walk this Royal road together. Yet the choice is yours, for as long as you choose to return to this Tower I shall be here and we will continue to unfold and explore another facet of the infinite mystery.
Every conversation will return, eventually, to the same questions: Who are we? What happened to us? What is the Kingdom? And how do we find our way home?
It may seem that one is the speaker and one is the listener, that one is the teacher and one the student. But that is an illusion For truly, we walk side by side And without listener there would be no tale to tell and no-one to witness it….
I will share with you my spinning of the yarn, my version of events.. But remember that it is just one perspective of the multidimensional crystal of all that is. The point is for you yourself to take up the tale, and tell your own version of events, and author your own epic drama.
The fire has burned low, and the hour has grown late. For tonight, this is enough. You must descend the stair again and return to the world from which you came. But now you know the road to the Tower. You are welcome anytime to return here and to continue the path and the story. This Tower exists in a place outside of space and a …. beyond time. And all true seekers may shall find it, although it may not be where they expect.
When you return, we will begin properly. We will take up the first thread of the Great Story and see where it leads.
After this introduction, at our next meeting we shall properly enter the tale and set forth on the initiatory journey. It will not necessarily be linear, we shall see what arises and what presents itself at that timing….
