Albedo

“When the white appears in the materia of the Great Work, life has conquered death, and our King has been resurrected from his tomb.”

Mars / two white soul birds retrieving the remains / Terra = Separation Sun / ascending soul & spirit birds leave Earth and lift the five-spiked crown / Rectificanto = Conjunction

"At this point the first main goal of the process is reached, namely the albedo, tinctura alba, terra alba foliata, lapis albus, etc., highly prized by many alchemists as if it were the ultimate goal. It is the silver or moon condition, which still has to be raised to the sun condition."

  • Jung, Psychology and Alchemy

"Earth and moon coincide in the albedo, for on the one hand the sublimated or calcined earth appears as terra alba foliata, the “sought-for good, like whitest snow,” and on the other hand Luna, as mistress of the albedo, is the femina alba of the coniunctio and the “mediatrix of the whitening.”"

  • Jung, Mysterium Coniunctionis

"My sons, you know that no one is crowned unless he has contended lawfully. So too in this Work: no one will behold the whitening (albedo) except the one who, with long and careful patience, has endured days and nights of watchfulness in service to the Work, supplying it without cease with the requisite heat. This [sign] is wont to appear after the various colours—something like the flower of salt and flowering quicklime. When you see it, give thanks to God, for now there can be no mistake: in this colour the elements are united; and then we have the chemical water for the White and the philosophers’ mercury for the ferment of the Moon."
